2

Choose Mode & Ranges

Select Split Every Page to generate one PDF per page, or choose Custom Page Ranges to group pages (such as 1-3, 4-8) or omit unneeded pages.

3

Split & Download

Click Split PDF. Your new PDF documents are generated in memory and ready to download individually or packaged in a fast, uncompressed ZIP archive.

Flexible Splitting

Two Splitting Modes to Match Your Workflow

Whether you need to break an entire document into individual loose sheets or divide a report into distinct chapters, ToolRipple gives you precise control over page output.

Mode A: Split Every Page

Ideal for scanned batches, multi-page receipts, or portfolios where each sheet must stand alone. Every single page in the source document becomes its own separate 1-page PDF:

  • document-page-001.pdf
  • document-page-002.pdf
  • document-page-003.pdf
Preserves 100% of pages in order

Mode B: Custom Page Ranges

Ideal for extracting chapters, sections, or specific exhibits. Separate pages into custom groups separated by commas or semicolons:

Example Syntax Generated Documents
1-3, 4-8, 9-12 Three multi-page PDFs (Pages 1–3, 4–8, 9–12)
1, 3, 5 Three single-page PDFs (Pages 2 and 4 omitted)
1-5, 8 One 5-page PDF and one single-page PDF
4-6, 1-3 Two PDFs following your custom group order

Split PDF vs. Extract PDF Pages: What is the Difference?

While both operations involve separating pages from a PDF, they serve distinctly different user intents:

Split PDF (This Tool)

Dividing Documents

Splitting is designed to systematically partition an entire document into multiple smaller documents (either page-by-page or by sections). The typical goal is dividing an omnibus file into independent files for distribution or filing.

Extract PDF Pages (Coming Soon)

Pulling Specific Pages

Extracting is designed to selectively take specific pages (such as page 3 and page 7) out of a document and combine just those extracted pages into a single new output PDF, without intending to partition the entire original file.

Privacy by Design

Why In-Browser PDF Splitting is Safer

Traditional online PDF converters require transmitting sensitive legal agreements, invoices, medical records, and financial statements to remote cloud servers. ToolRipple uses a fundamentally different architecture.

100% Client-Side Privacy

Your PDF never leaves your device. All document parsing, page extraction, and file rendering run exclusively inside your browser memory using WebAssembly and dedicated background Web Workers.

Zero Server Queues

No waiting for external server queues or uploading large multi-megabyte files over slow connections. Page splitting happens instantly using your local device CPU cores.

Immediate Memory Cleanup

All memory buffers, page canvases, and object URLs are revoked and garbage-collected upon download, reset, or cancellation. Nothing is written to permanent storage or tracked.

PDF Compatibility & Resource Duplication Notes

ToolRipple preserves source page dimensions, portrait and landscape orientations, typography, vector drawings, and embedded bitmap images. Please note the following technical characteristics:

  • Resource Duplication Notice: In PDF documents, embedded font programs, logos, and background images are often shared globally across all pages. When splitting a document into separate independent PDFs, each output document must embed its own copy of those shared resources to remain self-contained. Consequently, the combined file size of all split PDFs may be significantly larger than the original source PDF.
  • Password-Protected & Encrypted Files: In compliance with security standards, password-encrypted PDFs cannot be opened or split without their master decryption keys. Encrypted documents are rejected during inspection with a clear explanatory notice.
  • Interactive Elements: While page visual fidelity is preserved, dynamic interactive elements such as fillable AcroForm fields, outlines/bookmarks, and cryptographic digital signatures may be flattened or removed during page extraction.
  • Strict Syntax & Bound Checking: Custom ranges must specify valid 1-based page numbers within the document bounds. Overlapping ranges (e.g. 1-3, 2-4) or duplicate pages are rejected to guarantee document integrity.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are my PDF files uploaded to ToolRipple servers?

No. ToolRipple is built on a strict privacy-first foundation. All PDF parsing, thumbnail rendering, and document splitting happen locally inside your web browser. Your files, document contents, and metadata are never uploaded to any remote server or third-party service.

How does Mode A (Split Every Page) work?

Split Every Page separates each individual page of your source document into its own standalone 1-page PDF file. A 10-page document will generate exactly 10 separate PDF files numbered sequentially (e.g. document-page-001.pdf to document-page-010.pdf), which you can download individually or all at once in a ZIP archive.

How do custom page ranges work, and can I omit pages?

In Custom Page Ranges mode, you enter page groups separated by commas or semicolons (e.g. 1-3, 4-8, 9-12). Each group generates one output PDF containing exactly those pages. Any pages you do not include in your ranges are simply omitted from the output documents. The tool clearly displays which pages are included and which are omitted before you click split.

Why is the total size of all split PDFs larger than my original file?

In a single PDF file, embedded fonts, vector artwork, and images are shared across multiple pages in a single resource dictionary. When pages are split into separate standalone documents, each new file must include its own copies of those font subsets and assets so that it can be opened independently on any device. This standard behavior can cause the sum of split file sizes to exceed the original file size.

Can I split password-protected PDF files?

No. Encrypted or password-protected PDFs cannot be inspected or split without authentication credentials. ToolRipple rejects password-protected files with an informative message.

What is the difference between Split PDF and Extract PDF Pages?

Split PDF is designed to partition an entire document into multiple smaller documents (such as separate chapters or individual pages). Extract PDF Pages (our upcoming companion tool) is designed to pull selected individual pages out of a file and assemble them into a single new document.

What are the file size and page count limits?

You can split 1 PDF document per operation, with a maximum of 100 pages and up to 50 MB in file size. These limits ensure smooth performance, responsive rendering, and zero browser tab crashes across mobile and desktop devices.

Does this tool work on mobile devices?

Yes. ToolRipple is fully responsive and supports touch-friendly mobile browsers on iOS (Safari, Chrome) and Android. All processing occurs locally on your mobile device.
